ALSIP, Ill. — A tollway worker was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday afternoon on I-294 near south suburban Alsip, according to
Illinois State Police.
At 12:23 p.m., the Illinois Tollway maintenance worker was struck by a semi-truck pulling a trailer on southbound I-294 near milepost 11.75, police said.
The Illinois State Police said the 48-year-old worker was outside of his vehicle and picking up debris along the right shoulder when the semi-truck side-swiped the worker and his vehicle.
According to police, the semi-truck driver did not stop after the crash.
The worker, whose name has not yet been released, was killed, police said.
Two lanes were closed Monday afternoon due to the incident.
